Nail surgery is a treatment that is commonly used for ingrown toenails. At Podicare we typically use nail surgery when we can not resolve the ingrown toenail with conservative treatments.
While there are some variations on nail surgery , the procedure typically involves removing the problematic nail edge and cauterising the root by applying a chemical so that portion of the nail doesn’t grow back. This done under a local anaesthetic in our clinic rooms.
The result is a slightly narrow but importantly a flatter toenail that does not dig or put pressure in the nail groove.
If you are considering toenail surgery, make an appointment with a Podiatrist to discuss the surgery and to assess if it right for you. The Podicare podiatrist also offer conservative options to manage ingrown toenails.
